Children’s Eye Health
As your child grows, their bodies and minds go through a period of rapid physical development. This makes their eyes particularly susceptible to contracting conditions such as myopia, astigmatism, lazy eye, or squints. These problems are easily treated in the vast majority of cases, but they can develop into more serious vision issues if the symptoms aren’t spotted early enough.
Vision is responsible for up to 80% of your child’s learning, so poor eyesight can be extremely detrimental to both their education and social development. And in most cases your child will be unaware that it is their vision that is the root cause of their poor attainment.
Michael Harris Opticians specializes in children’s eye examinations, and our expert team of optometrists is highly qualified to ensure your child has the best experience during their appointment. In addition to tests for eyesight prescription, we also check for eye coordination, peripheral vision and focus among other factors. If we discover your child needs glasses or contact lenses, our dispensers are on hand to offer bespoke recommendations.
The NHS funds free eye tests for all children under the age of 16, and for students in full time education under the age of 18. So make sure to request them in for their annual appointment either online or via phone 024 7671 1620.
